    About Miss Hui O Hawaii

Nalani Kalohilani Echaves was born and raised in San Diego, California. She graduated from Morse Highschool at the age of seventeen and has achieved many other accomplishments. Throughout her senior year, she served as the ASB president of her high school, where she sharpened her leadership skills. She worked with her peers, teachers, and community as part of her school's subcommittee, focusing on addressing the needs and wants of the surrounding community. Nalani is currently pursuing her educational goals at Grossmont Community College, majoring in Administration of Justice and Law Enforcement with the aim of becoming a lawyer. Nalani has been a member of the Hui since birth, as her mother, Aunty Norma, a member since 1995, included her within the Hui to help her understand and appreciate her Hawaiian heritage. She cherishes the Hui for the lessons it has taught her, and the meaningful connections formed throughout her upbringing. While being a member, Nalani has always volunteered and done her best to represent her culture by being present for Hui-hosted events, such as volunteering at this year's Island Vibe Hui booth and helping with a fundraiser for Miss Hui. Being active in the Hui community and surrounded by love and inspirational leaders has given her the confidence to run for Miss Hui and aspire to be a future leader for our Hawaiian community and beyond.
