KANIKAPILA at the Hui O Hawaiʻi San Diego
Kanikapila at the Hui has been a tradition for many years. Aunty Meailani Wilcox was the matriarch of Kanikapila, blessing our Hui with her dedication to music for years and years until she passed away.
Kanikapila is a style of Hawaiian music produced in an impromptu jam session. Literally defined, Kani means sound and pila means any string musical instrument.
At the Hui O Hawaiʻi, it is not quite impromptu, but it is still a great jam session. Kanikapila is a place where professionals, beginners, and all those in between come together to play and learn Hawaiian music. We talk story and have a wonderful time perpetuating Hawaiian Culture and musical tradition.
Come join in and enjoy an evening of beautiful music, friendship, and fun.
